Stronghold is real-time medieval strategy game. In campaing mode the king has been captured, many high generals killed by the new tyrants, that rule these lands. Sir Longarm and lord Woolsack allows you to command small units, and you get first missions as rampart builder and food producer in abandoned lands that are ruled by wolves.
Here is a quick video of stronghold review:
In later game you get discovered by the tyrants, and must face them with the help of sir Longarm. For food you can grow wheat and bake bread, grow apples, build dairy farms, or hunt deers. When you have enough food you can set higher food rations and increase taxes, or sell goods in market to earn gold.
The goal of this project is to attract more people to playing old games and bring stronghold back to it’s former glory. To join stronghold community you have to install stronghold and gameranger.
Most modern games are soulless and cheap, the most important part are shining graphics nowadays, that’s why scenario suffers. It is very expensive to create a modern game that’s why creators are afraid to experiment, instead they “bake” games according to known recipes like “more VIOLENCE, more SHOOTING, more ACTION, more GRAPHICS” — masses of people buy that sort of games, and it is ok for them, but there are people who prefer genuine, challenging games with interesting scenario, games that feels like reading a book while playing.
I say that stronghold 1 is better than stronghold crusader, and here are the reasons:
Stronghold crusader was made to be a quick game with lots of action, that’s why firefly made economy easier in crusader:
In multiplayer mode, stronghold crusader players use mostly horsearchers, shields, assasins and catapults while in stronghold 1 every troop has it’s own role. Example spearmen and pikemen are strong against knights, but weak against macemen. So here you get to use all soldiers.
Economy in stronghold 1 is harder. And there are no mercenaries, so you have to produce every weapon yourself.
Stronghold 1 is more balanced than crusader, example – in stronghold crusader shields move at the same speed as knights (What the hell?)
The only downside to stronghold1 is that it does not support teams of 3 or 4 players.
